Make MoCo Purple for Domestic Violence Awareness Month is a countywide campaign using awareness, education, and community engagement to help prevent domestic violence and connect victims with support. Throughout October, Montgomery County turns purple, the national color of domestic violence awareness, so that help is visible and easy to find.
This October, we’re inviting all of Montgomery County to turn purple in support of victims of domestic violence.
Purple is the national color of domestic violence awareness, and when our businesses, schools, neighborhoods, faith communities, and County institutions show purple together, we send one message: this community sees domestic violence and knows where to turn for help.
Maryland has designated October 1 as Purple Light Night in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month and as a visible show of support for victims. Make MoCo Purple for DVAM carries that message throughout October with a countywide campaign to make domestic violence prevention visible, share local resources, and connect victims and their children with support.
Domestic violence reaches every neighborhood and income level in Montgomery County.
More victims and families are reaching out, and demand is outpacing recent years.
When help is easy to see, people recognize it sooner and reach it faster.
Wear purple on Purple Fridays and designated purple days in October.
Display purple lights, signs, ribbons, or window clings at home or work.
Share photos on social media using #MakeMoCoPurple.
Encourage businesses, schools, neighborhoods, faith communities, and organizations to take part and help make local resources easy to find.
