Dorothy Fait has been practicing law in Maryland for over 30 years and is the founding partner of Fait, Wise & DiLima, LLP . She is an advocate for her individual clients, families, and victims of abuse, through her law practice, pro bono and volunteer associations, legislative works, community activism, and appellate cases. She was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court in 1977, and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit in 1979. Ms. Fait is the Immediate Past Chair of the Family Law Section Council of the Maryland State Bar Association and is a Bencher and past-President of the Montgomery County Inn of Court. She was a Commissioner on the Maryland State Ethics Commission, from 2000 to 2005, and was its Chair. She was also Chair of the Montgomery County Spouse Abuse Task Force for many years and is currently Treasurer of the Family Justice Center Foundation, the successor agency to the Task Force.
Ms. Fait has been inducted into the Circle of Excellence in 2011 for being named as one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women by The Daily Record three times. Her considerable commitment to her community garnered her the Woman of Valor Award from the Greater Washington Jewish Coalition Against Domestic Abuse in 2003. Dorothy has been named a Maryland Super Lawyer for each year from 2006 to 2013. She has been named a Washingtonian Top Divorce Lawyer in 2009 and 2011.
