The Friends of the Family Justice Center is one of only approximately 40 centers located in the United States and other countries. The concept is to create a family-friendly environment in which a multi-disciplinary team of professionals works together in one, centralized location to provide coordinated services to victims of family violence.
Prior to the Center’s opening in Montgomery County, victims of domestic violence would have to visit as many as 20 different agencies to receive vital services and assistance. With victims often escaping their situations with only the clothes on their back and no transportation, this made an already challenging situation nearly impossible.
Financial literacy is a key to self-sufficiency. Self-sufficiency is a key to independent thinking. Independence is a critical piece in providing a better chance for a domestic violence victim to leave – and not return – to an abusive relationship.
The MCFJC Foundation, aware that victims of domestic violence are a vulnerable population who are oftentimes financially underserved and underbanked, is working with a local financial institution on a special project to help FJC clients (many of whom have never had access to any money of their own!) develop financial literacy and financial capacity.

The goal is to help the client become totally financial fit. Elements of the on-going program include both general understandings as well as specific “how to’s”:
The mission of the MCFJC Foundation is two-fold: we support the work of the Montgomery County Family Justice Center by raising funds and providing services to victims of domestic violence and their children; and we raise awareness regarding the impact of domestic violence and outreach to the County’s youth to help teach about healthy relationships. A non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation, The MCFJC Foundation works to help strengthen the lives of families affected by domestic violence and relationship abuse and break the cycle of violence in future generations.
We look forward to the day when the scourge of domestic violence – emotional, psychological and physical abuse – will no longer be a factor in the lives of our friends and neighbors in Montgomery County.
If you need assistance with domestic violence, dating violence or stalking (safety planning, counseling, legal assistance, etc.) please call the Family Justice Center at 240-773-0444. If you are in danger or need emergency assistance, call 911 IMMEDIATELY.
